HomeOutfit Inspiration By GenderWomenAll You Need To Know About Athleisure Wear PinTweetShareShare0 SharesAt first, we weren’t sure what this trend is called. If you’re like us who tried to wrap around the concept of sweatpants replacing jeans, then you’ve probably seen this fashion trend in the past. It’s actually called Athleisure and based on Wikipedia, it’s “a trend in fashion in which clothing designed for athletic workouts at gymnasium, sometimes termed activewear, is worn outside of the gym to go to the office or shopping or other social occasions.” if you’ve flipped through your magazine or your newsfeed and have seen these celebrities getting papped wearing athletic clothing like yoga pants, gym clothes, etc., then you’re probably in the loop. Remember before when the trend was”Normcore”? We’ve even written a post about that. But long have gone the way of the minimalist look because it’s all about the activewear nowadays. It was reported that at the end of last year, Americans spent more than $1 billion dollars on sportswear. How mind-boggling is that? Many are asking, “does our life run so fast that we need to wear gym clothes for all situations?” Even those who aren’t even going to the gym or having an active lifestyle wears gym clothes just for the hell of it. Also, this specific trend is so big in the celebrity world that it’s not even just for those green juice lovers and gym rats. So it’s practically here to stay, we reckon. One main reason athleisure is so popular is because these clothes are super comfortable. They’re form-controlling fit. Also, there are so many brands at all price points that many can really afford it, from Urban Outfitters’ $175-dollar leggings to Target’s basic ones The trend is so big that now, women would panic and look for their favorite pair of leggings and not their denim jeans anymore. But if you look closely, you can see old pictures of the famous Audrey Hepburn already rocking the athleisure trend back in the 60s. Wearing gym clothes everyday could feel rather European and who wouldn’t want to experience at least that type of styling? “Gym-to-the-office” is becoming bigger than a trend. Net-a-Sporter, a new channel from Net-a-Porter even launched a site dedicated to sportswear with the tagline “sportswear that is as chic as everything else in your closet” with brands like Nike and even Karl Lagerfeld sweatshirts which ranges from $235. Athleisure isn’t just for the women; men’s styles are also under this trend’s influence. Athleisure has mixed reviews. Some believes that in the office or other formal settings, you still need to dress appropriately. We can’t all be Kanye West, who can easily get away with his sportswear on red carpet events. We’re totally going to get side-eyed and talked about on these types of events, and it’s not worth it at all. Nobody’s going to take you seriously after that. Also, being called “spandex girl” isn’t the way to live life. So choose your fashion and styling wisely. Do you really need to wear your sportswear after working out? To a special dinner? Casual business meeting? Still, dress accordingly. For us, athleisure is only acceptable when exercising, working out, at the gym or just simply for casual wear and nothing else.
