Reign Costumes We’re Currently Loving

Reign is an American historical fiction television series about the early years of Mary Queen of Scots living in France. It’s being aired on The CW every Thursday night. The show is actually historically inaccurate but it’s brilliant. It’s also looks to be a mash-up of Gossip Girl, Game of Thrones and The History Channel, but their definitely taking some liberties when it comes to fashion.

The costume designers of the show shop 16th century costumes on Net-a-Porter, The Outnet and BHLDN, also some vintage shops in Toronto.

They mostly shop at Dolce & Gabbana, Oscar de la Renta, Naeem Khan and Alexander McQueen for gowns and for their everyday look, they shop Free People.

How beautiful is this midnight blue silk dress? It’s super classy and elegant and she even wore a statement choker necklace to elongate her neck.

Totally loving this dress Lady Lola, played by Anna PoppleWell, is wearing. It’s a Vera Wang ball gown. The Reign costume department just altered and dyed it into a pink-violet dress.

Mary is wearing this Marchesa Voyage embroidered long sleeve gown perfect for social events during evenings. The black and little glittery specs makes the dress look sophisticated and elegant. For a dress that’s beautiful like this one, you don’t need a statement necklace to take the attention off of it.

But how about Princess Claude’s (Rose Williams) dreamy Valentino lace and silk gown? This look is perfect for daytime formal events because of its light pink color and how the look will seem soft and clean? The dress gives out a contemporary feel.

Mary’s Alexander McQueen crystal and faux pearl-embroidered Crepe Dress that she wore as a top. Loving how it looks so put together. Her headband is a Gillian Steinhardt Totem Headband from the Spring/Summer 2015 collection. She always has quite a roughness to her look no matter how womanly it is.

This black beaded mesh top is quite sexy with a hint of teasing. It’s appropriate even with the V cut in the front but the mesh makes it modish and complicated. This dress is by Temperly.

During the episode of Mary and Francis’ wedding, Mary wore this gorgeous white bustier style wedding dress with lace sleeves. It’s part of the Monique Lhuilier Bridal Spring 2012 Platinum Collection. The corsets they wear for the show are actually custom-made to each character’s measurements. they use traditional corsets to help with some of the non-traditional silhouettes their using.

Alexander Wang is the King of vintage-inspired clothing because this gold embroidered silk-sating cropped military jacket made this. It’s easy to pair this with combat boots and dark jeans. The look gives out a nod to the proper period costume.

This Ice Queen Mary is wearing this custom-made costume by the Reign designers. It is a white gown with pearl embellished collar that is accurately inspired by Catherine de’ Medici, Francis’ mother. The headpiece is perfect, it’s from Debra Moreland.
